When you have a toddler, movies can provide a magical 90 minutes of peace, quiet, and cuddles, but not all movies are created equal. So here we go with the Top 10 Disney movies to watch with toddlers.
What to look for in a Disney movie to watch with toddlers
After years of hands-on research (watching movies with my own kids), I noticed a few common characteristics in the movies that kept their attention the entire time.
- Bright Colors- it’s not secret that toddlers love bright colors. Even when they don’t get story, they will watch movies for the visual experience alone.
- Catchy Music- toddlers were made to move so pick a movie that they can dance to.
- Action Over Talking- while they might not be ready for a full on action movie yet. Something should constantly be happening. If people are standing around talking, your toddler will be leaving.
- Funny Looking Characters- the bigger the eyes, the weirder the nose, the wilder the hair, the better!
Not every movie on this list checks all these boxes, but all of them will have some of these things. Most importantly, all of these have been tested on my kids and their friends.
Top 10 Disney movies to watch with toddlers
When putting together this list of Disney movies to watch with toddlers, I thought about everyone that would be watching them.
The great thing about these movies is that they are just as enjoyable for mom as they are for the kids. If you haven’t seen them in a while, you might be surprised at some of the humor that they included just for us.
I mean the toys come to life when you leave the room! How awesome is that. All of the Toy Story movies are big hits with the toddler set, but the Toy Story 2 seems to a favorite. With Toy Story 4 coming out, this is also the perfect opportunity for movie marathon over a rainy weekend.
Although Alice in Wonderland is the oldest movie on this list, toddlers are mesmerized by it. It must be the bright colors and crazy creatures.
Who wouldn’t love a tropical island, catchy music and a hilarious chicken sidekick? This is one of my favorites to watch with the kids. It’s especially great if you want a girl hero that doesn’t fit into the typical princess model.
I know you may be super over Frozen, but chances are your toddler is not. Although thought of as a little girl movie, most boys I’ve known have been just as interested in it. Since all the music is familiar, this is a great one to do a sing-a-long with.
This is was one of the first movies my son paid attention too. As children, it’s fun to think that every day objects have a life of their own and then throw some racing into it and it is perfect.
The colors in this movie are amazing! The characters are funny and lovable. It can also be a good way to start teaching young children about their emotions, imagination, and talking about things.
Winnie the Pooh is an absolute classic. With it’s soothing soundtrack and soft colors, Winnie the Pooh is the perfect way to help your toddler wind down from a busy day.
Also, because it is closely based on the original book, it is great way to introduce characters to longer books. Since they are already familiar with the characters and stories, they get excited to see them in book form.
Lilo and Stitch is a hilarious movie that the whole family will enjoy. Not to mention the combination of Hawaiian and Elvis music is strangely addictive.
It’s also a great introduction to Ohana (family) and that you stick together no matter what your family looks like.
Between race cars, video games, and a land made of candy, Wreck It Ralph is a child’s dream world. This movie is bright, colorful, and action packed.
Don’t let all the fun distract you from the powerful lesson being taught- friendship is based on supporting each other not changing who are to fit in.
Finally on my list of Disney movies to watch with toddlers is the Incredibles, specifically the first one. Kids with super powers will tickle your kids imaginations and have them saving the world right along with Violet and Dash.

So grab a movie, a snack, and a blanket and make some of your own memories.
